Agenda
Essential Question: What does it take to design curricula that educates for a sustainable future from Pre-K-12th grade?
How can we design elegant units of study that educate for sustainability? What tools are available to us to do so? What are the core EfS content and performance standards/outcomes and indicators we can use to design learning opportunities and assess student learning? How can we align EfS Core Standards/Outcomes with the ones our school/our State require? Can we integrate EfS units into our curriculum mapping software? How can Understanding by Design or a “backwards design” approach contribute to the design of EfS curricula? What explicit criteria can we use to assess student work for evidence of
EfS? How do we plan for vertical and horizontal integration of the EfS Standards/Outcomes and Indicators? Can we see some exemplars of EfS units that other teachers and schools have developed? Can we see exemplary student work from those schools?
This institute is designed for faculty teams, curriculum supervisors and their teams and individuals who are interested in addressing these and any other questions you have about designing curriculum units that educate for sustainability. For those schools that are ready for vertical and lateral curriculum mapping and integration of EfS across the curriculum, time will be set aside for “big picture planning” as well.
Content of the Week:
Deepen content knowledge and skill development in EfS: Mini sessions will be woven throughout the EfS Curriculum Design Studio to provide participants with advanced knowledge and skill development within the Cloud Institute’s EfS core content areas.
Plan and design EfS curriculum units with aligned and available library and multi-media resources, coaching and peer review opportunities at appropriate intervals
Learn how to assess EfS curriculum units
Learn how to assess student work for attributes of EfS knowledge skills and attitudes
Conduct a strengths assessment of your operating curriculum for evidence of the content, skills and best instructional practices of EfS
We will also be launching our Online EfS Curriculum Design Studio and Gallery™ which will be available to our clients and partners who would like to participate over time in online curriculum design and coaching sessions in addition to exchanging final units with other educators through our Gallery. The Gallery will serve as a robust curriculum commons for teachers to contribute and to draw on, exemplary EfS units of study Pre-K-12 across the disciplines. Also available will be our Curriculum Design Studio in a Box!
